Sensative AB receives financing from Nefco to scale up its IoT solution for smart cities and buildings

With loan financing from Nefco, Sensative will expand its IoT solution business and help improve energy and resource efficiency worldwide.

Sensative AB, a Swedish tech company specialised in IoT (Internet of Things) solutions for smart cities and buildings, has received financing from Nefco – the Nordic Green Bank. Sensative provides enabling technologies to support more effective digitalisation for enterprises and societies to decrease their environmental impact related to CO2 emissions and consumption of energy, water and other critical resources. The loan financing from Nefco will help the company continue the scale-up of its operations in Asia, Europe and North America.

Sensative’s IoT solutions are used for, for example, monitoring and controlling energy, ventilation and water systems in properties, with the purpose of improving their energy and resource efficiency and thus reducing their climate impact. By collecting data from devices connected to Sensative’s platform, users can gain clearer insights, make better decisions and automate previously manual processes, with higher efficiency and productivity as a result.

“We see this as great recognition of our technology and efforts to provide solutions for our customers to optimise their resource use and reduce their environmental footprint. The financing will substantially bolster our expansion plans in the North American market, where we already have some high-profile customers, especially in Canada,” said Mats Pettersson, CEO, Sensative.

“Optimisation solutions can have a significant impact, even when making seemingly small changes to customer operations,” Pettersson explained. “For instance, one real estate customer with a large portfolio estimates energy cost savings of 4% per 1 degree Celsius heating reduction. That may not sound like much, but with the size of the portfolio, they’ll save several million euros a year – especially in these times of skyrocketing energy costs. Another example is the improved asset value of properties that can gain, for instance, LEED certifications because of the control and optimisations achieved through our solutions.”

Sensative has developed and licensed its platform Yggio as a PaaS (Platform as a Service), with over 50 municipal customers using Yggio as a network platform for smart city, smart building, smart apartment, smart energy and smart water applications so far. With the help of Yggio, users can view and monitor all connected devices and buildings in one place and, e.g., turn off lights or heating in buildings when not in use. In addition to the platform, Sensative provides IoT sensors for smart homes and buildings, with more than 200,000 units of its patented ultra-thin design having already been sold and delivered.

“Enabling technologies like Sensative’s are an essential part of the green transition. With its IoT solution, Sensative can help reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency in various sectors and industries,” commented Mikael Reims, VP, Origination at Nefco.

In 2021, Sensative received a grant from Nopef, the Nordic Project Fund, a fund managed by Nefco and financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers, to support its internationalisation on the North American market.

“Our financing instruments support growth companies in various stages, from market exploration to market entry and scale-up, of which Sensative’s collaboration with Nefco is a great example,” Reims said.
