NCF has directly benefitted 1.4 million people across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

NDF and NEFCO have together published the Nordic Climate Facility Results Report 2017. The report covers aggregated results from the overall NCF portfolio, highlights from projects completed in 2017, featured impact stories, updates and intermediate results from the current active portfolio, as well as lessons learned.

So far, NCF projects have directly benefited approximately 1.4 million people across Africa, Asia and Latin America through access to renewable and affordable energy, new income-generating possibilities, job creation, improved health, food security, water availability, waste treatment, women’s empowerment and capacity-building, among other things. In terms of cumulative emission reductions, NCF projects have the capacity to reduce 400,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually.

The overall NCF portfolio consists of 68 projects, of which 17 projects are under implementation and 51 have already been closed. The results and impacts vary due to the wide range of sectors, technologies and activities in the project portfolio. NCF is a rather unique instrument combining both adaptation and mitigation activities in many projects.

In 2017, projects financed by the Nordic Climate Facility (NCF) benefitted 53,000 people (63% women), tested 32 new green business concepts and reached annual emissions reductions and carbon sequestration of 134,000 tonnes of CO2.

The Nordic Climate Facility (NCF) is a challenge fund set up by the Nordic Development Fund in 2009 to finance early stage innovative climate change projects. Financing from NCF is allocated on a competitive basis with thematic calls for proposals arranged annually. NCF is fully financed by the Nordic Development Fund (NDF), which is administering all ongoing projects as of 2018. NEFCO administered the first four calls for proposals.
