Examples of financed projects by the Finland Ukraine Trust Fund
Potential of landfill biogas production in Ukraine
Landfills are the third largest source of fugitive methane emissions globally. Responsible landfill operators aim to limit their methane emissions to reduce their carbon footprint, and biogas production offers them a profitable way to achieve those goals. Financing from the Finland Ukraine Trust Fund helps Deep Scan Tech to locate biogas sources in landfills in Ukraine using 3D scans.
Landfill gas emissions to green energy at Melitopol landfill
Energy production from landfill gas (LFG) is among the best ways to reduce methane emissions from landfills. Instead of escaping into the air, LFG can be captured, converted, and used in renewable energy production, for electricity, heat generation and even in some cases for vehicle usage. Finland Ukraine Trust Fund has financed a feasibility study to support the development of gas extraction from the Melitopol landfill.
Utilisation of biomass residues in the renewable sector in Ukraine
The project explored new opportunities for producing renewable energy from biomass residues in Ukraine aiming to identify the optimal concepts for the supply, logistics and final utilisation of biomass for energy. Based on case studies from Finland and Ukraine using various biomass type, a gap analysis was conducted which settled the basis for designing a roadmap for the development of the sector in Ukraine.
